Osama Hammad, the Prime Minister of the government appointed by the House of Representatives, called on the Central Bank of Libya on Thursday to extend evening operating hours at all banks and their branches until 6:00 p.m., and to designate the day of Arafat as an official working day.

This is intended to facilitate the disbursement of salaries and meet citizens’ daily needs ahead of the Eid al-Adha holiday.

In a letter addressed to Central Bank of Libya Governor Naji Issa and his deputy, Mari Al-Barassi, Hammad emphasized that this request stems from his government’s responsibility and its constant commitment to creating conditions that alleviate the burdens on citizens, ensure the regular provision of banking services, and facilitate the timely completion of financial transactions, in the public interest and in consideration of citizens’ needs during these blessed days.

Hammad called on the Central Bank of Libya to instruct all commercial bank branches to extend “official working hours to include the evening period until 6:00 p.m., effective from Saturday, May 23, until the Day of Arafat,” noting that “the Day of Arafat shall be an official working day for all banks.”
