On Saturday, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, commander of the General Command forces, inaugurated the first phase of the project to develop the Julyana area in the city of Benghazi, coinciding with the twelfth anniversary of Operation Dignity, which was launched on May 16, 2014.
Development of the Julyana Area
The first phase of the project included the construction of five modern bridges as part of a plan to develop infrastructure, improve traffic flow, and connect the city center with its main thoroughfares, under the supervision of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, headed by Belqasim Haftar.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister appointed by the House of Representatives, Osama Hammad, and the Mayor of Benghazi, Ezzedine Al-Gharabi, along with a number of members of the House of Representatives and military and security leaders, amidst an official and public presence and the participation of the General Movement of Scouts and Guides.
The project also includes the development of Lake Julyana, transforming it into a modern urban waterfront, as part of the reconstruction and urban development projects that Benghazi has been undergoing in recent years.
The Twelfth Anniversary of “Operation Dignity”
In the same context, the General Command issued a statement on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of Operation Dignity, in which it affirmed the continued work to develop the military institution and strengthen security and stability in the country.
The statement said that the operation constituted “a historic turning point in the process of building the military institution on the foundations of discipline and professionalism,” noting the continued “support for the project of building a modern Libyan state based on unified and strong institutions.”
