Flydubai announced on Thursday that it will launch a direct route to Benina International Airport in Benghazi, with three flights per week, making it the first Emirati airline to resume flights to Libya.
The company said on its Facebook page that the launch of its flights to Benghazi “will complement its growing network in Africa,” noting that flights to Benghazi will operate from Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport.
Agence France-Presse quoted Flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith as saying, “We have finally worked to expand the scope of our operations, by summer, our network is expected to reach more than 100 destinations. The strength, flexibility, and responsiveness of the UAE’s aviation sector have enabled us to continue growing and leverage Dubai’s central location to explore new and emerging markets such as Libya.”
In recent weeks, Flydubai has resumed flights to most destinations in its network, including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the Middle East, as well as destinations in Europe and Russia.
With the addition of this new destination, Flydubai’s network in East and North Africa expands to 13 destinations, according to Agence France-Presse.
