Akakus Oil Operations announces resumption of production after containing a leak

Akakus Oil Operations announced on Sunday, that it has resumed production operations in Concession 186, after its technical teams successfully contained and repaired a leak in a crude oil pipeline in record time.

The company explained in a statement that specialized teams responded to a report of a leak in the pipeline connecting Stations A and D within the concession.

It noted that the affected area was isolated and the leak contained in accordance with approved safety and security standards, while immediate measures were taken to protect the surrounding environment and remediate the affected soil.

According to the statement, technical staff were able to complete maintenance work and restart the pipeline at 14:40 local time (12:40 GMT), allowing production to return to its previous levels.

Akakus Oil Operations

Akakus is one of the major operators in Libya’s oil sector, managing the Sharara field—one of the country’s largest oil fields—in partnership with the National Oil Corporation and international companies.

Libya, which possesses the largest proven oil reserves in Africa, is seeking to ensure the stability of production operations despite the security and technical challenges facing the sector’s infrastructure.
