Memorandum of understanding signed between Libya and Tunisia on labor market regulation and vocational training development

Ali Al-Abed, Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation for the Government of National Unity, and Riad Choaued, Tunisian Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries in the fields of labor and vocational training.

The MoU aims to modernize training programs, establish effective partnerships for twinning training centers between the two sides, organize exchanges of expertise, and stimulate cooperation between the Libyan and Tunisian private sectors to advance reconstruction and development, according to a post by the Government of National Unity on its Facebook page.

Strengthening Economic Integration Between Libya and Tunisia

During the signing ceremony held in Tunis, Al-Abed emphasized the importance of strengthening economic integration, implementing digital transformation in the organization of work procedures, adopting the “Wafed” platform as an official channel for regulating labor recruitment, and ensuring workers’ legal rights.

The Government of National Unity noted the agreement between Al-Abed and Chaoued to form a joint technical team, comprising experts from both ministries, to prepare the memorandum’s implementation plan, establish implementation mechanisms and timelines, as well as oversee technical coordination and data exchange between the two parties.

Activating Electronic Employment Platforms Between Libya and Tunisia

On Tuesday, Al-Abed and the Tunisian Minister of Employment and Vocational Training held talks on ways to strengthen joint cooperation in the fields of employment, vocational training, and labor market regulation, as well as a number of issues of mutual interest.

The two sides discussed mechanisms for activating the electronic link between platforms concerned with labor employment, foremost among them the Libyan “Wafed” platform and the “Tunisia for Employment” platform, thereby contributing to streamlining procedures, enhancing transparency, and improving employment efficiency.
