Syrian airlines have begun operating direct flights between Damascus and Tripoli, with one flight per week every Saturday, and the possibility of increasing the frequency in the future.
On Saturday evening, the private airline Fly Cham launched its first flight from Damascus to Tripoli, in a move aimed at activating and strengthening ties between the two countries and opening new horizons for cooperation, particularly in the economic, commercial, and tourism sectors, according to the Syrian news agency SANA.
Osama Sa’at, the company’s advisor for development and public relations, told SANA on Sunday that “the opening of this new air bridge contributes to expanding areas of economic cooperation and development, and to strengthening relations, particularly in the tourism sector, between the two countries.”
Facilitating travel for Syrians residing in Libya
For his part, the company’s sales director, Burhan Birqadar, said that direct flights between Damascus and Tripoli will facilitate travel for Syrians residing in Libya who wish to return to their homeland, as well as encouraging Libyans to visit Syria, noting that flights will begin with one flight per week every Saturday, with the possibility of increasing them in the future.
For his part, the company’s commercial director, Hamdi Khalaf, told SANA that launching the route to Tripoli is part of the company’s well-planned expansion strategy, serving the Syrian community in Libya and boosting travel between the two countries.
Walid Ammar, the chargé d’affaires of the Libyan Embassy in Syria, considered the launch of Fly Cham’s first flight to Tripoli an important opportunity to restore normal relations between the two countries, noting that there are multiple agreements between the two nations currently being worked on to activate.
Last Friday, Qutaiba Badawi, head of the Syrian General Authority for Ports and Customs, discussed with Walid Ammar, the chargé d’affaires of the Libyan Embassy in Syria, ways to strengthen trade relations between the two countries.
It is worth noting that Fly Cham is a private airline established in 2025 as a partnership between investors from the UAE and Syria, making it the first airline to provide direct flights between Syrian cities and major Gulf destinations.
