Memorandum of understanding signed between Libya's Airports Authority and Airports Council International Africa

The Airports Authority of the Ministry of Transport for the Government of National Unitysigned a memorandum of understanding with Airports Council International Africa (ACI Africa), setting out the general framework for cooperation between the two sides during the coming period.

The signing ceremony took place in Tripoli on Wednesday, in the presence of Minister of Transport Mohamed Al-Shahoubi and Secretary General of ACI Africa, Ali Tounsi, following a meeting between the two sides to discuss ways of joint cooperation to develop the Libyan airport sector, within the framework of supporting the institutional modernization of the civil aviation sector, according to a post on the Ministry of Transport's Facebook page.

Details of the memorandum of understanding

The ministry explained that the memorandum of understanding aims to enhance cooperation in a number of vital areas, most notably: training and qualification, and knowledge transfer in the fields of airport management and operation, in accordance with international and local recommendations and standards, as well as contributing to the qualification of safety and security personnel at Libyan airports through specialized practical and theoretical training packages.

The memorandum provides for the dispatch of technical assessment teams to Libyan airports to review security and safety levels and convey an accurate picture to the relevant organizations and countries regarding the level of compliance achieved, while providing technical advice and guidance necessary to achieve the best results and fulfill the vision and objectives of the airports authority.

The memorandum also includes the contribution of ACI Africa in completing airport licensing programs and providing technical support and specialized experts to review the necessary documents and procedures, thereby contributing to the completion of licensing for the remaining Libyan airports.

Developing civil aviation infrastructure in Libya

During his meeting with Tounsi and Al-Shahoubi reviewed civil aviation infrastructure development projects and targeted development plans, stressing the importance of strengthening coordination and communication with the Council to benefit from its expertise and experience in the areas of rehabilitation and development.

For his part, Tounisi presented the objectives and ACI's vision for the advancement of the airport sector in Africa, stressing the importance of partnership and cooperation in developing infrastructure and improving operational efficiency and safety at airports.

Tounisi affirmed his readiness to provide all possible facilities and necessary technical support, contribute to raising the efficiency of Libyan airport personnel, and ensure compliance with approved systems and regulations.
