On Monday, members of the Oil Facilities Guard organized a protest in front of the headquarters of the National Oil Corporation in Tripoli to demand a raise in their wages.
The protesters said in a statement that they "receive the lowest salary in the state, which does not guarantee them a decent life," adding, "We demand our rights guaranteed to us only by law."
The protesters said that "the guard is administratively and financially affiliated with the National Oil Corporation and therefore what applies to workers in the fields, ports and oil sites in salaries, allowances and financial incentives applies to its members."
The protesters expressed their rejection of "blackmail from the state, chaos, sabotage and the exploitation of oil as a pressure card to take away worker rights".
