The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has revealed that Nigeria has regained its status as Africa’s leading oil producer, displacing Libya.

According to OPEC's Oil Market Report for December 2022, Nigeria recorded 1.18 million barrels per day, its highest on record in seven months.

Libya's production decreased by 32,000 barrels to reach 1.133 million barrels per day during November.

The Ministry of Oil and Gas for Libya's Interim Government of National Unity seeks to increase Libya's oil production to 1.6 million barrels per day within three years, according to Minister Mohamed Aoun's statement, to return to 2010 levels.
