The Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul revealed that 33,100 tons of Ukrainian corn will arrive in Libya after leaving the country's ports last Saturday.

On October 22, four ships left Ukrainian ports, carrying 106,017 tons of grain and other agricultural products as part of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, heading to France, Greece, Libya and Turkey, according to a Joint Coordination Center statement.

The BELLA JUDY ship will deliver 33,100 tons of corn to Libya, while the cargo ship SUMMER LADY will carry 55,457 tons of rapeseed to France, and the ISLAND BAY cargo ship will carry 5,460 tons of corn to Greece. The PROFESSOR B ship, loaded with 12,000 tons of barley, is heading to Turkey.

On July 22, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations signed the "Initiative on the Safe Transportation of Grain and Foodstuffs from Ukrainian Ports", during a meeting hosted by Istanbul.

Libya relies excessively on food imports, especially cereals, accounting for about 90% of the country's needs.

The latest report by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on food security in Libya estimated that 65% of total corn imports, 50% of the barley imports, and 30% of wheat imports came from Ukraine. The Russian Federation provided 20% of Libya's wheat imports.
