The US Ambassador to Libya said that the embassy will study the latest financial report by the Audit Bureau, pointing to its important role in “monitoring" the central government to reach "the highest levels of transparency and governance, and exposing corruption.”

Ambassador Richard Norland's comments came during the launch of the Libyan Audit Bureau Professional Certificate Program in partnership with the US Agency for Development and the International Arab Society of Certified Accountants.

Norland added that the "equitable distribution of Libyan resources is an important goal for the US," pointing out the need for strong accounting audits after the resumption of oil production and the great returns it has generated since the beginning of this year.

He also reiterated his country's support for efforts to combat corruption in governance and unify Libyan institutions, stressing the provision of technical assistance for accountability practices.

Last week, Libya's Audit Bureau issued a report highlighting “excesses” committed by the Government of National Unity headed by Abdulhamid Dabaiba, including 12 million dinars spent on watches gifted to guests of the prime minister.
