Nigeria lost its position as the largest oil producer in Africa to Libya, with its crude production declining last month, amid continuous supply disruptions according to a new report from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Nigeria's crude production fell to about 1.23 million barrels per day in October, from about 1.25 million, while Libya's production rose to 1.24 million barrels per day based on the report.

Libya's National Oil Corporation plans to raise its production to 1.45 million barrels per day by the end of this year, 1.6 million within two years, and to 2.1 million within four years, according to previous statements by its chairman Mustafa Sanalla.

Libya is exempt from the restrictions imposed on production by OPEC and its allies, due to its internal situation.
