The head of the Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, held a telephone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Ali Al-Zaidi to congratulate him on his official appointment to form the new Iraqi government, according to a post by Al-Zaidi on his X account.
Al-Zaidi said he discussed with Dabaiba “ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, address common challenges, work toward achieving mutual interests between Iraq and Libya, and emphasize efforts to support stability in the region.”
In a post on his X account, the Chargé d’Affaires at the Iraqi Embassy in Libya, Mohammed Al-Sahaf, praised the phone call between Dabaiba and Al-Zaidi, noting the congratulations and support expressed during the conversation, as well as the discussion of the latest regional developments.
Government circles in Iraq and Libya are making preparations to hold the third session of the Joint Committee between the two countries in the coming days, which is expected to see the signing of memorandums of understanding in vital sectors including security, health, industry, and higher education, in addition to exempting holders of diplomatic passports from entry visa requirements.
