The Italian government considers "the Libyan crisis a major concern," stressing that "its solution is a fundamental national interest," according to the Italian news agency, AKI.

"The stability of this country and the whole region, and the welfare of the Libyan people, was and will continue to be at the core of the work of the the Conte government," Italian sources told AKI after Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte's meeting on Wednesday with Fayez Al-Sarraj.

Government sources added that Conte confirmed "Italy's support for the Government of National Accord," and at the same time said Italy will "continue to play an active role in the return to a political process through virtuous and peaceful means."
