Egyptian-Moroccan Talks on Developments in Libya and Sudan

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, on Monday in Cairo, focusing on developments in Libya and efforts to support stability there, as part of ongoing political coordination between the two countries.

Both sides affirmed the importance of continuing consultations on the Libyan issue, in a manner that contributes to supporting security and stability, preserving the unity of the state, and promoting the political track as the primary option for resolving the crisis, alongside supporting joint Arab and African action to address regional challenges, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting also addressed recent developments in the region, including Sudan and the military escalation in the region, with both sides stressing the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to contain tensions and prevent their escalation.

Efforts to de-escalate tensions and support peace processes in the region

In the same context, the Egyptian minister reviewed Cairo’s efforts, in cooperation with regional and international partners, to de-escalate tensions and support political settlement processes, particularly in Libya, as one of the priority issues for regional national security.

The two ministers also discussed ways to develop bilateral relations between Egypt and Morocco and prepare for the first session of the Joint Coordination and Follow-up Committee, thereby strengthening cooperation in various fields and serving the common interests of both countries.

The meeting featured an exchange of views on a number of issues of mutual interest, with an emphasis on continuing coordination and consultation in the coming period amid the rapidly evolving challenges facing the region.
