The Interior Minister for Libya's Government of National Unity (GNU), Imad Trabelsi, affirmed on Wednesday that all those who are proven to be involved in the Abu Salim massacre will be held accountable "without exception" and "whatever their characteristics."

Trabelsi explained that he instructed the Tripoli Security Directorate to follow up the case directly under his supervision and that the crime scene was fully inspected, with fingerprints lifted and weapons seized.

According to the Tripoli Security Directorate, ten people were killed.

It added: "A report was received by the Abu Salim police station control room at 1:30 in the morning regarding the murder of ten people, some of whom belong to the Stability Support Apparatus. The incident took place inside a house near the Abu Sha'ala Mosque by an unidentified armed group.”

The gunshot-riddled bodies were transferred to Abu Salim Accidents Hospital for forensic examination on the orders of the Attorney General's office.

The United Nations Mission in Libya has called for an "independent, rapid and comprehensive investigation" into the killings and urged "work to prevent any actions that may lead to escalation and further violence."
