The Tripoli branch of the Department for Combatting Illegal Migration (DCIM) announced the deportation of irregular migrants from Niger to their country on Tuesday.

The department said that the voluntary deportation took place in cooperation with international organizations concerned with the immigration file.

This comes after a newly released UN report noted an increase in migration waves from Niger towards Libyan territory by 50% since last December.

A report by the International Organization for Migration stated that the flow of migrants has been constantly increasing after Niger's cancellation of Law 036/2015, which criminalized human smuggling, last November.
