The Speaker of Libya's House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, directed public institutions and companies to prohibit the provision of funds to the Government of National Unity, noting that those who violate this directive will open themselves up to "charges of wasting public money."

This came in a letter issued on Tuesday, directed to the Attorney General, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, the Chairman of the Audit Bureau, the Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority, the Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Authority, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libyan Investment Corporation, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Africa Portfolio, the Chairman of the Board of Directors Telecom Holding Company and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Economic and Social Development Fund.

The letter also accuses the Government of National Unity of "unlawfully" wasting public money in violation of all the financial legislation in force.

Saleh added: "It is prohibited for all Libyan public institutions and companies to provide any funds to the expired government of national unity in any form, whether it is a loan or for the purpose of social responsibility. Proof of such actions puts the officials and representatives of those institutions and companies in violation of maintaining public money."
