According to statistics published by Italy's Agenzia Nova, 2,614 irregular migrants arrived in Italy from the Libyan coast in 2024, a 7.9% increase from the same period in 2023.
Overall, 4,028 irregular migrants have arrived in Italy since the start of 2024.
The data indicates a total decline of 46.9% from the same period in 2023, which recorded 7,857 arrivals.
The number of arrivals from Tunisia fell to 1,172 compared to 4,236 during the same period last year, a 72.3% decline.
According to Agenzia Nova, departures were mostly from western Libya, especially the localities of Zuwara, Sabratha, and Zawiya.
More than a thousand individuals were also intercepted at sea and returned to Libyan territory since the start of 2024, according to the International Organization for Migration.
