The Speaker of Libya's House of Representatives held a meeting on Saturday with the French Ambassador to Libya, Mostafa Mihraje, to discuss "efforts to hold presidential and parliamentary elections."

The meeting was held at Speaker Aguila Saleh's office in the city of Qubba, and also discussed the political situation in Libya, according to a statement issued by the House of Representatives.

The statement added that Saleh stressed "the formation of a unified government in the country whose main task is to hold elections in accordance with the will of the Libyan people."

Mihraje extended an invitation to the speaker of the House of Representatives to visit France in the coming days, according to the statement.

Last Tuesday, Aguila reiterated the need to form a unified government to supervise the elections, during a meeting with UN envoy Abdullah Bathily.

Bathily said that the meeting in Benghazi discussed developments in the political process, where he stressed "the need for all leaders to participate positively in the dialogue he proposed to reach a political settlement to end the stalemate that is causing so much suffering to the Libyan people."
