The Attorney General's Office announced on Monday the evacuation of properties in the city of Misrata whose owners were forced to sell in 2012 under threat.

A statement by the office said that the investigating authority had initiated a criminal case against the perpetrators of the incidents that forced some citizens to dispose of their real estate properties in the city of Misrata.

The statement added that the Attorney General examined the documents related to the rights of the aggrieved and investigated the circumstances that accompanied the drafting of contracts which legalized the sale of their real estate properties.

The investigations found that the sale of the properties was illegal, due to the forced contracts in 2012.

A decision was made to evict the current occupants and hand over the real estate to the victims.

In early November, the Ministry of Interior for Libya's Government of National Unity announced the return of 18 families displaced in 2012 to their homes in the municipalities of Ain Zara and Qasr bin Ghashir, southeast of Tripoli, based on the instructions of the Attorney General.
