Libyan Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi praised France's role in supporting the Libyan cause and the council in all steps taken to acheive reconciliation and reach elections.

Menfi received French Ambassador to Libya Mostafa Mihraje on Wednesday afternoon at the council's headquarters in Tripoli to discuss developments in the political, economic and military situation in Libya, according to a statement issued by the Presidential Council.

The French ambassador expressed his appreciation for the role Menfi has played role in bringing the views of the Libyan parties closer together, and his tireless efforts to bring the country to a stage of stability through free and transparent elections in which all Libyans can participate without any exclusions.

In December, Mihraje affirmed his country's commitment to supporting elections in Libya in order to preserve its unity, stability and sovereignty.

The commitment came during the signing of an agreement with the United Nations Development Program in Libya to support the High National Elections Commission to prepare for "free and fair elections and prevent electoral misinformation."
