Libya's parliament-appointed government said on Sunday that about 85% of the damaged homes and properties in the city of Derna have been surveyed, in conjunction with the distribution of the eighth batch of flood damage reparations to citizens.

The government led by Osama Hammad said in a post on its Facebook page that the Damage Assessment Committee is continuing its work in the remaining areas of Derna, and continues the process of disbursing reparations.

It added that the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chairman of the Damage Survey Committee Abu Bakr Amsadef Al-Zway, conducted an inspection tour to assess the damage in the city of Derna, in cooperation and coordination with the General Command of the Armed Forces.

Storm Daniel hit north-eastern Libya on Sunday September 10, bringing strong winds and sudden heavy rainfall which led to massive flooding, devastation and deaths. Infrastructure was greatly damaged, including dams near Derna that burst, causing flooding which swept away entire neighborhoods.
