Algerian Prime Minister Aymen Benabderrahmane called for speeding up the organization of elections and achieving comprehensive national reconciliation in Libya.

Benabderrahmane's call came during his speech at the Higher Joint Committee between Algeria and Tunisia on Wednesday, with the participation of his Tunisian counterpart Ahmed Hachani.

The Algerian prime minister pointed to the most prominent challenges on the Maghreb scene, namely "the state of instability experienced by brotherly Libya and its direct repercussions on Tunisia, Algeria and the region."

He reiterated Algeria's firm position and its firm conviction since the beginning of the Libyan crisis that its solution can only be achieved through a comprehensive political settlement among the Libyans themselves.

After expressing his urgency to organize the elections, Benabderrahmane said that the call came "to preserve the security and stability of this country, spare it the scourge of war and foreign interference in its internal affairs, preserve its wealth and harness it for the development and well-being of the Libyan people."
