The Ministry of Interior for Libya's interim Government of National Unity (GNU) announced on Tuesday evening the deployment of security personnel in order to maintain security and stability inside the city of Al-Khoms and along its coastline.

The Al-Khoms Security Directorate and the Special Task Unit of the General Directorate of Security Operations participated in the security posts in cooperation with the Intervention and Control Force, according to statement by the ministry.

Over the past two days, Al-Khoms has seen protests against a decision believed to be aimed at annexing the local seaport to the city's military naval base. Protestors blocked the city's coastal road and the Al-Khoms market bridge by setting tires on fire.

On Sunday, an expanded and emergency meeting was held in the city to discuss the boundaries of the port and the effects of halting the annexation of the port.
