The new head of Libya's High Council of State, Mohammed Takala, confirmed during a phone call he received from the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, that "the council is fully prepared to work with all Libyan institutions without exception in order to achieve political, economic and security stability."

On Sunday, Takala received a phone call from Norland, during which he congratulated him on assuming the duties of President of the High Council of State, praising the electoral process, which took place in a highly fair democratic atmosphere and consolidates a promising democratic future in Libya, according to a statement issued by the council.

For his part, Takala affirmed his determination to lead the council to play its effective role in laying the foundations for the concept of the peaceful transfer of power in order to achieve the ambition of all Libyans to hold presidential and parliamentary elections preceded by the process of unifying all state institutions.

Libya's High Council of State voted to replace its leader in a televised vote on Sunday, with members chosing Mohammed Takala in a run-off.

The 67 to 62 vote ousted Khaled Al-Mishri who had led the Tripoli-based body since 2018.
