Italian ambassador visits Benghazi, discusses reconstruction cooperation

With the end of his term as Italian ambassador to Libya approaching, Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino paid a visit to Benghazi, during which he discussed coordination with his country for the reconstruction and stabilization program in the city.

Italy's Consul General in Benghazi, Francesco Di Luigi, also participated in the discussions, with included a meeting with the head of the Benghazi Municipality’s Executive Council, Saqr Bujawari, and the director of his office, Youssef Al-Zawawi.

The meeting discussed the implications of the current political situation in the municipality and its ability to provide services, the works and projects implemented by the United Nations Development Program and the importance of joint coordination with regard to the reconstruction and stability program in the city.

The municipality said in a statement that Buccino's visit to Benghazi comes close to the end of his tenure as Italian ambassador to Libya, adding that he praised the good reception, cooperation and continuous response of the municipality to the Italian consulate for the benefit of the public interest of both parties.

For his part, Bujawari praised the cooperation of the European Union in general and Italy in particular "with regard to supporting and developing the municipality's human capabilities in a number of fields."
