The Italian ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino, said that it is expected that the reconstruction of Tripoli International Airport will be completed during 2024, praising the "encouraging progress of the works that began last February."

Buccino visited the airport site on Thursday, whose reconstruction was entrusted to the Italian consortium of Italian companies, AENEAS, according to a statement by the Italian embassy.

The Italian ambassador inspected the construction, saying that the airport, once completed, it "will be able to serve more than 6.5 million passengers annually and will represent a bridge for Libya to the Mediterranean and the world."

The project aims to build two terminals, one local and the other international.

Both terminals cover a total of about 30,000 square meters Italy's Agenzia Nova.

Nova added that the work entrusted to the Italian consortium was suspended several times, due to the outbreak of the capital war, from April 2019 to June 2020, when the airport was on the front line of the clashes.
