The Ambulance and Emergency Service announced the return of calm to Zawiya and the cessation of clashes that broke out at the entrance of the city on Sunday evening.

It added that the clashes resulted in the death of four people, without details about the identity of the fighting parties.

The service said it sent emergency teams to Zawiya from the municipalities of Janzour and Hay al-Andalus, who remained on alert all night, according to a statement released on Monday.

The teams evacuated about 30 families who were stuck in the areas of clashes, and provided safe paths for their exit.

The Red Crescent's Zawiya branch also confirmed an agreement on Monday to end the armed clashes after it issued an appeal to stop the confrontations.
