U.N. Libya envoy Abdoulaye Bathily called on Saturday for allowing candidates in the Libyan elections to move freely throughout the country.

Bathily said during a press conference in Tripoli, "The dispute still exists over the conditions for running for the presidential elections, despite the announcement by the Speakers of the House of Representatives and the (High Council) state they reached an agreement on the constitutional declaration."

"Candidates in the elections must be allowed to move and compete freely across Libya according to their programmes, which will constitute a milestone for national reconciliation and unity in Libya," he added.

Bathily announced a new initiative in February to break the deadlock by creating a steering committee to enable the elections, seen as critical to any lasting peace.
