The head of Libya's Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, discussed support for the process of holding 2023 parliamentary and presidential elections in Libya with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin.

This came during a meeting attended by the Russian Ambassador to Qatar, Dmitry Dugadkin, and held on the sidelines of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries held in Doha on March 5, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Presidential Council.

The statement indicated that the meeting also touched on “the latest developments in the political situation in Libya, and advancing the political process.”

In his speech during the international conference, Menfi called for the establishment of a “global emergency fund” in which countries would contribute to confront “epidemics, natural disasters and the effects of wars, and to ensure that medicine and food reach everyone."
