The Speaker of Libya's House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, reiterated "the need for a unified government throughout the country to organize elections, in addition to the readiness of the High National Elections Commission to conduct this national election," according to spokesman Abdullah Bliheg.

Saleh's assertion came during his reception on Tuesday of US special envoy and Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, and the US Chargé d'Affairs Leslie Ordman at House of Representatives headquarters in the city of Benghazi.

Bliheg said in a press statement that the meeting dealt with ways elections as soon as possible, noting that Saleh “confirmed that the House of Representatives fulfilled all the necessary legislation to hold presidential and parliamentary elections through the thirteenth constitutional amendment.”

Saleh also reaffirmed parliament's readiness to make the necessary amendment to electoral laws "if the need arises," stressing that "there is no obstacle to holding elections in terms of the necessary legislation to conduct them."
