Bathily in Algeria to discuss support for political solution in Libya

Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ramtane Lamamra received on Tuesday, UN envoy Abdoulaye Bathily on his two-day working visit to Algeria.

A statement by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Bathily referred to Algeria's "positive contribution" to supporting a political solution in Libya and its "permanent solidarity with this brotherly and neighboring country," stressing the special attention he attaches to coordination with neighboring countries in order to accelerate the path of a peaceful settlement for the crisis.

The statement added that the discussions between the two parties focused on developments in the situation in Libya and efforts exerted to provide the necessary conditions for organizing elections as "the only way to consecrate the will of the Libyan people to choose their rulers and unify their national institutions."

Minister Lamamra renewed "Algeria's support for the efforts of the United Nations in this direction," stressing his country's readiness "to put its expertise at the disposal of our Libyan brothers, especially with regard to the embodiment of national reconciliation and the organization of elections."
