The Libyan Consulate General in Istanbul issued a warning on Wednesday to citizens coming to Turkey that they would face penalties if they brought more than one new mobile phone.

In a brief statement, the consulate indicated that there were repeated cases of Libyan citizens being arrested after arrival in Turkey with more than one new mobile phone.

The consulate indicated that the penalties include confiscating phones, fines, referring owners to the Economic Court on charges of smuggling and deportation.
