Minister of Finance for Libya's Government of National Unity, Khaled Al-Mabrouk, urged the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank to help Africa mitigate the effects of climate change on the people of the continent in terms of combating desertification and addressing the causes of water scarcity.

This came in his speech during the periodic meeting of African central bank governors with the President of the World Bank Group, David Malpass, according to a statement by the Ministry of Finance on its Facebook page on Monday.

Al-Mabrouk stressed that Africa is the least polluter compared to the rest of the world's continents, yet it is the most affected by climate change.

He also asked the two international institutions to support the protection of forests and the preservation of green spaces, because of their role in maintaining the ecological balance.
