U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed "the United States commitment to support the restoration of Libya's sovereignty and national unity", saying that "the ceasefire and progress in the political process are the decisive steps towards resolving the conflict in Libya."

This came in a letter sent by Trump to the head of Libya's Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, in which he congratulated him and Libyans on the anniversary of Libya's Independence Day, the 24th December, according to the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry for the Government of National Accord, Mohammed Al-Qiblawi.

Al-Qiblawi added that the U.S. president "urged the the Presidential Council and Libyans to continue working towards a political solution," stressing "the commitment of the United States to support the restoration of Libya's sovereignty and national unity", describing the two things as" necessary to ensure stability and address the economic, security and humanitarian situation in Libya."
