A Libyan delegation consisting of the Deputy Head of the Tourist Police and Antiquities Protection Authority, Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Riyahi, a representative of the Libyan Foreign Ministry and an expert from the Antiquities Department, visited Brazil as part of a mission to recover an artifact that had been smuggled to Brazil and prove the Libyan state's ownership of it.

The delegation met members of the Brazilian Federal Police at their headquarters to allow the expert to conduct an initial inspection of the piece, according to a statement published by the Ministry of Interior.

The delegation also met the judge in charge of the statue’s case file to request analysis of the soil samples that were taken from the statue’s head. The judge agreed to grant the delegation the required time to complete the procedures.
