Public Prosecution orders detention of Culture Minister Mabrouka Toghi on corruption charges

The Public Prosecutors office ordered the pretrial detention of the Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development in the Government of National Unity, Mabrouka Toghi, pending investigations into corruption in the administrative and financial work carried out by a number of ministry employees.

A statement explained that the incidents of corruption included a number of employees of the Ministry of Culture “contracted to carry out maintenance work on the Book and Publishing House building, the meeting room in the ministry, and the traffic circle established in front of the ministry building." There were also "falsified official documents for the purpose of complicating review procedures for tracking aspects of the disbursement of public money."

The statement added that the Public Prosecutor “has completed reviewing the financial and administrative documents and checking their procedural integrity and compliance with the legislation governing the disbursement of public money."
