The Ministry of Health for the Government of National Unity announced it reached an agreement with Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino to dispatch more than 35 patients with critical muscular dystrophy cases to Italy for treatment after they are evaluated by a specialized Italian team that will visit Libya.

The Italian medical is scheduled to evaluate each patient separately and recommend which cases would benefit most from treatment abroad, while others will receive care provided in Libya.

This came during a meeting between Health Minister Ramadan Abu Janah and Ambassador Buccino, to discuss prospects for cooperation between the two countries, especially in the health sector, the obstacles facing muscular dystrophy patients, and the possibility of their treatment in Italy, according to a statement published by the ministry on Wednesday.

The Italian ambassador also confirmed the possibility of sending a number of Libyan doctors to Italy to gain experience in treating dystrophic patients, pledging to provide facilities for doctors and patients, including obtaining travel visas required to enter the country.
