Tripoli's Al-Ahli Football Club traveled to the city of Benghazi, via an exceptional domestic flight, while the airspace is still closed to regular passenger flights between the west and east of the country.

The flight schedule for Monday, through Tripoli's Mitiga International Airport, does not have any flights to eastern Libya despite there being 29 flights to foreign destinations and oil fields.

During the past days, citizens have called for necessity of reopening the airspace to domestic flights, a call that was reiterated by UN Special Adviser Stephanie Williams.

Williams called for the resumption of civilian flights between Tripoli and Benghazi, stressing that freedom of movement throughout Libya is a "fundamental human right that must be respected."

During a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, the US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, stressed "the need to immediately reopen Libyan airspace to domestic flights."

Despite these calls, no official comment has been issued, especially from the Civil Aviation Authority or the Airports Authority, regarding the suspension of flights between eastern and western Libya.

Dabaiba has been accused of being behind the suspension of flights to hinder the formation of the new parliament approved government tasked with replacing him.
