The first international flight by Medsky Airways arrived at Misrata International Airport, coming from Valletta Airport in Malta, on Saturday.

Medsky Airways is a new airline dedicated to flights between Libya and Europe.

The European Commission had announced at the end of 2014, a ban on dealing with all Libyan aviation institutions and banning its planes from flying in EU airspace.

The Commission explained the ban was related to "safety controls". EU Commissioner for Transport Affairs in 2014, Violeta Bulc, said that the situation in Libya “does not allow the International Civil Aviation Authority to fulfill its obligations towards the civil aviation sector.”

Medsky Airways is operated in partnership with Maltese government-owned company Med Air, allowing it fly into EU airspace.
