Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries to solve the Libyan crisis and the dilemma of illegal migration.

An agreement between the two parties came on several files, according to a statement issued by the Italian side, following a meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit on the Indonesian island of Bali on Wednesday.

Earlier, Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi told the Senate that the presence of NGO ships in the Mediterranean near the Libyan coast has attracted migrants and human traffickers. He added private entities such as those ships “cannot be who chooses the country in which the migrants are disembarked".
