The Benghazi Education Monitor announced that Sunday, would be an official holiday in all educational institutions due to inclement weather conditions.

Earlier on Saturday, Libya's parliament-appointed Prime Minister, Osama Hammad, granted education officials powers to suspend classes due to weather conditions.

Hammad explained in letters addressed to the three ministers that giving them discretion came due to the different weather conditions from one region to another, according to a government statement.

The Tripoli-based Government of National Unity also decided that Sunday will be an official holiday for public institutions and facilities, to "preserve the safety of citizens from the expected effects of the weather".
