Libyan Organization for Environment and Climate launches campaign to plant 100 million trees by 2030

The Libyan Organization for Environment and Climate has launched an ambitious initiative to plant 100 million trees by 2030.

The Permanent Committee for Sustainable Development and the General Directorate of Sanitation Affairs at the Ministry of Local Government are participating in the initiative, according to the Libyan News Agency.

The initiative, launched on Friday by the Al-Assah agricultural project south of Tripoli, aims to combat desertification, develop vegetation cover, mitigate climate change and improve air quality.

The first day of the campaign witnessed the participation of young volunteers, scouts and guides, and a large number of environmentalists from cities in the west of the country.

On Monday, the Minister of Planning in the Government of National Unity, Mohammed Al-Zaidani, said that the government launched an initiative to plant 100 million trees, to absorb about three million tons of carbon dioxide, according to his speech at the meeting of the 5th session of the Arab Council for Population and Development at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.
