France affirmed its support for the efforts of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, as well as the 5+5 Joint Military Commission aimed at unifying the military establishment and securing elections in 2023.
This came in a tweet posted by the French embassy commenting on the results of a meeting chaired by Bathily, between military and security officials from eastern and western Libya in Tripoli this week.
The participants in the meeting reached a consensus on several points, including “continuing work on the path of unifying military institutions through the chiefs of staff, unifying security institutions and creating a unified government”.
They also expressed the need for “the dialogue to between Libyans and within Libyan territory, and the rejection of foreign interference.”
