Libyan National Army commander, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, met on Monday, with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, at General Command headquarters in Benghazi.

A General Command statement said that Bathily briefed Haftar on the UN mission's plan for the next phase, which will lead to holding presidential and parliamentary elections.

The statement added that the importance of supporting the efforts by the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to complete the constitutional basis was emphasized during the meeting.

On Saturday, Bathily revealed in a Tripoli press conference the features of his vision for forming a high-level panel that would lead to the holding of elections. He added that if a clear road map and electoral laws are in put in place by June, national elections could be held by the end of the year.
