Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry affirmed his country's full support for a Libyan-Libyan solution and its rejection of any external dictates to Libyans.

He also called on all parties involved in the Libyan crisis to abide by the foundations of the 2015 Skhirat agreement and determinants, saying “there is no alternative to it,” considering that attempts to invent new mechanisms aim to “confuse the scene in order to perpetuate the status quo.”

This came during his speech on his assumption of the presidency of the 159th session of Arab League Council from Libyan Government of National Unity Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush.

Shoukry described the Libyan parliament’s issuance of a 13th constitutional amendment to the Constitutional Declaration of 2011 and its approval by the High Council of State as an “important and essential” development, considering that this amendment contributes to fulfilling the constitutional and legal framework necessary for holding presidential and parliamentary elections, simultaneously, and as soon as possible under the supervision of a “neutral government” that upholds the supreme interests of the Libyan state.

The Egyptian diplomat added that he appreciated the parliament's and High Council of the State achieving “this progress,” and expressed his aspiration for their continued efforts, in line with their respective mandates established by the Skhirat agreement.

Shoukry also stressed the need for all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries to leave Libya within a specific time frame and support for the 5+5 Joint Military Commission's mission, in order to achieve sovereignty and stability for Libya. He concluded by calling on all Arab brothers to stand behind the Libyan people and support the role of Libyan institutions in their legitimate endeavor to achieve these goals.
