The Speaker of Libya's House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, called on the members to take "courageous and bold measures" aimed at getting the country out of its crisis.

During his speech in Tuesday's session, Saleh said: “I see that what gets the country out of its crisis is amending the constitutional declaration and setting a basis for elections”.

He added: "After the victory of any revolution, the actual authority makes a constitutional declaration, and this is what happened in Libya and the Transitional Council completed the constitutional declaration, and based on this the election of the National Conference, the Committee of Sixty and the current House of Representatives took place, so the constitutional declaration is a constitution until it is canceled or the existing constitution for the country is issued.”

He explained that “what currently exists is a draft constitution, and in order for it to become a constitution, the people must vote on it after a societal dialogue.”

He considered that the current stage requires assuming responsibilities and rapprochement with the High Council of the State, and added: “There is a rapprochement between us, but it is verbal and not at the level of actions.”
