Putin appoints Aydar Aganin as ambassador to Libya

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Thurday appointing diplomat Aydar Aganin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Libya, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov announced in June that Moscow intends to resume the work of its embassy in Tripoli in the near future and that the appointment of the Russian ambassador will be announced soon.

In August, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Libya's interim Government of National Unity, Najla Mangoush, discussed prospects for resuming economic projects that were suspended 10 years ago.
