The US ambassador and to Libya, Richard Norland, affirmed his country's support for efforts to reopen Libyan oil and gas production, noting at the same time that his country is following up on "the court procedures related to the National Oil Corporation." (NOC)

Norland's confirmation came at an international meeting hosted by the Turkish Foreign Ministry in Istanbul on Thursday, to review the latest developments in Libya.

In a series of tweets, Norland stressed that his country stands with international partners to support "Libyan-led efforts to manage oil revenues in a transparent and accountable way so that all Libyans benefit from their nation’s oil wealth."

Norland said that his country is "closely following court proceedings regarding the NOC and encourages Libyan actors to allow judicial authorities to carry out their duties without interference.

He considered that "the NOC’s independence, and apolitical status in recent years is a legacy that should be maintained to sustain Libya’s reputation in the international oil sector."

Last week, Government of National Unity Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba, changed the NOC's board of directors headed by Mustafa Sanalla, and appointed a new board of directors headed by Farhat Bengdara. Sanalla reject the move, saying that interim Government of National Unity did not have the authority to make the move.
